29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery

I have come up with a list of products that I think are great postpartum essentials for moms during this fourth trimester, that’s the postpartum period.

I really hope this list of postpartum essentials help you transition from expecting mom to a new mom in an easier and enjoyable way.

Belly wrap

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (3)

There are some women who like it but others don’t. there are so many benefits of belly binding, first being a great help in diastasis recti. This happens from the uterus growing and stretching out the abdominal muscles.

I really suffered from diastasis recti for a long time before I seriously learned some exercises to reduce them. But you don’t have to be like me.

Another benefit is that it provides lower back and pelvic support. When using a belly binder, corset or belly wrap you are putting less pressure on your lower back but on your hips, pelvis and ribs to help go back to its pre-pregnancy state.

It is recommended that women wear a belly wrap for four to six weeks after delivery and for at least 10 hours to reap maximum benefits.

Padsicles

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (4)

After delivery you will have lochia, which is heavy vagin*l bleeding from uterus lining and it lasts about two weeks or as long as six weeks. Please don’t use tampons during this time.

I highly recommend moms to either create their own padsicles when they get home so you can purchase some good quality pads and prepare them and have ready in your freezer. I highly recommend buying some cooling pads as well.

The ingredients that you place on the pads will help your vagin* and bottom feel so much better and heal you more quickly. Here is a quick recipe from Mama natural to make homemade padsicles.

You can change your padsicles as often as you would like. It’s up to you. You can prepare around 20 padsicles to use right after your delivery and more if you need them later.

Feminine Cold Packs

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (5)

These TendHer Cooling Pads are aa-amazing! There are two options you can opt for. One you can freeze them and use as a cooling pad. Or you can warm them and use as a hot back for your nether regions.

They provide full coverage down there and you can easily tuck them in your underwear. Wearing them will surely help your sore bottom. You can apply witch hazel or lavender oil on the sleeves to feel much better.

These pads are made with BPA- and phthalate-free film and are reusable for eight weeks or more.

The gel formula that they use consists entirely of vegan food ingredients, with no artificial preservatives.

Stool Softener

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (6)

After giving birth, the most impossible thing for me to do was to go the bathroom to poop. Seriously, this can be a real pain in the ass!

Do yourself a favor and start taking a stool softener right after your little one has arrived. I would also recommend using it for at least a week or so, along with eating a well-balanced diet.

All this because passing the stool after delivery is no fun! I highly recommend Colace Stool softener. Give it a try!

Glycerin Suppositories

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (7)

These glycerin suppositories go along with Colace. This is when you get to the point you are so constipated that you need a suppository.

Trust me! It happened with me! I would yell from the bathroom due to the pain in the stiches down there and I was scared each time I had to go to poop.

So again, please do yourself a favor and pick up glycerin suppositories and keep them with you.

Nipple Butter or Cream

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (8)

With taking care of the lower region, let’s talk about the upper region as well. After birth its absolutely normal to have a few changes in your breast and experience leaking.

If you plan on breastfeeding, you must take care of your nipples. You really want to protect them from getting chapped or cracked. Again, I personally have suffered from them, and I can tell they are really painful. So, I’m telling you with from my very own experience.

I recommend to keep your nipple moisturized and also using products safe for the baby. Earth Mama’s nipple butter is a great choice.

Another of my favorite nipple balms is Motherlove. Now the cheapest option is to make your own. So, any option you try, just try! These are must-have postpartum essentials for moms.

Nipple Shields and Shells

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (9)

Breastfeeding can sometimes be difficult in the beginning. Some mothers have inverted or flat nipples which makes it hard for babies to latch. Nipple Shields are ideal for those moms who have flatter or inverted nipples.

The nipple shield helps your baby learn how to latch properly. It also gives your nipple a break from getting dry and cracked. So, if you know you have such nipples, go ahead and purchase them. You will probably need them for the first few weeks when your nipples are sore.

If you have normal or everted nipples you can wait for a while, until you start breastfeeding.

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (10)

Nipple Shells are for any breastfeeding mamas. They are basically like shells you can stick inside your bra after feedings so you’re your sore nipples don’t touch your shirt or bra. These are really amazing!

Nursing Pads

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (11)

If you breastfeed you probably have already bought nursing pads. Or if you are a new mom, you must have bought disposable ones already.

Well, disposable pads are convenient, but can sometimes be uncomfortable and itchy. If you are looking for something to take care of your breast and prevent leaking, buy these Bamboobies nursing pads which are incredibly soft. These are super absorbent and eco-friendly.

They are organic washable and reusable nursing pads. They are my favorites. You’ll be so happy that you did.

Nursing Tanks and Bras

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (12)

When you breastfeed your baby, your breast tends to get sore and heavy, which can alter their shape afterwards or you can get stretch marks during this time.

After birth you should rest and while you’re learning to breastfeed you much stock up on good nursing bras and tanks in your wardrobe.

I have already talked about nursing pads, but Bamboobies have good nursing bras and nursing tanks and I absolutely love them.

You want to make sure you stock up on 5-7 nursing bras or tanks when you have your baby. You will be leaky so it’s nice to have extra support.

They are really comfortable and easy to sleep in.

Loungewear

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (13)

You’ll be lounging around for the first few weeks and often nursing your baby. Make sure that your clothing is not restricting you and make you comfortable and happy.

Having a few pairs of cute maternity loungewearwill allow comfort and breathability during your recovery period.

It’s also nice to have a couple of options when you have your friends or family members stopping by to see you and your baby.

Postpartum Doula

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (14)

A postpartum doula is someone who is trained to help you through this transitioning period of having a baby in your family. This is the time you need her the most.

You’ll need to rest and recover physically after birth and mentally and emotionally as well. A postpartum doula will help you with light housework, makes you snacks and easy meals, teaches you baby care like how to bath, swaddle, diaper, breastfeed, bottle feed, burp, and calm your baby, and how to wear your baby.

She will give you a well-deserved break from the baby when you want to take shower or a little nap.

Sitz/Herbal Bath

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (15)

A sits bath aids in cleansing and healing, and really just feels nice on a tender area. After you have a baby you need a sitz bath or a herbal bath to soothe wounds, aches, pains and reduce swelling.

It is good for hemorrhoids too. You can try a DIY recipe for a sitz bath or you can purchase Earth Mama’s Herbal Sitz Bath. Your pelvic floor will really thank you.

Follow the instructions on the box and ease your sore bottom and promote healing. You can try other herbal sitz baths as well. There are plenty on Amazon!

Stay Hydrated

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (16)

Hydration is a must during your postpartum period. Moms who aren’t hydrated enough have lower milk supply, so be sure to take at least 8 glasses of water every day. These128-ounces of bottlesare amazing and you won’t have a problem refilling them again and again.

Again you should be drinking at least 6-8 glasses of water drinking more water will not boost your milk supply or give you another benefits. But drinking an excessive amount of water has actually been shown to drop a mother’s milk supply.

Still you must keep yourself hydrated and eat a well-balanced diet.

A Good Tea

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (17)

Well, I love teas and they can be really helpful for many things, especially for a recovering mom. I would recommend Birds and Bees Teas. They have two teas which are incredible for the postpartum period.

Their Ripe and Ready tea is made to tone the uterus and is perfect for healing after giving birth. Their other tea Our Lady of La Leche is helpful to increase the quantity and quality of milk as well as support the nursing mother’s overall health.

Other than these two teas, I would recommend having warm ginger tea to keep your immune system strong.

Healing Balm

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (18)

According to the research, almost one in three women in the U.S get cesarean. That makes around a32.7%rate. If you’re among those women who will be delivering a baby with c-section, it’s nice to have something that will heal your scars.

Earth Mama’s Skin and Scar Balm is a great all-natural product that helps with proper cell regeneration and repairs the skin. It can be used for surgical wounds, old C-section scars, stretch marks, rashes, and burns.

If you’re looking for something specific for your stretch marks I would recommend a good stretch marks cream and to prevent getting them to rub coconut oil on your body.

Peri Bottle

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (19)

Peri bottle filled with warm water can come very handy for cleansing your perineal area. For the first few weeks after giving birth, your pee can sting especially when you have stitches.

Having a peri bottle to use each time you go to the bathroom will lessen the sting. This peri bottle from Fridamom is great. It is amazing because it has an angled end so you don’t have to lean awkwardly to aim and miss every time you go to the bathroom.

It also holds two more ounces of water than your average peri bottle. I also love that the spout is retractable and comes with a travel bag so you can still wash and recover even when you’re on-the-go.

You can also fill the bottle with an herbal sitz bath solution and spray it on areas underneath to speed healing and increase comfort.

Earth Mama’s Bottom Spray

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (20)

Another thing you need is Earth Mama’sHerbal Perineal Spray. This is definitely one of the postpartum essentials for moms. It provides healing and relief to your bottom region.

The good part is it is free from harsh chemicals and all you need to do is to spray for application.

This can be used with the peri bottle as both have their own benefits. is definitely a must-have for every new mom. It provides healing and relief without the harsh chemicals and all you have to do is spray for application.

Nursing Pillow

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (21)

Nursing pillows are a nursing mom’s favorite. I even used them pre-postpartum to lie on the side with my big tummy. They are super helpful. My favorite nursing pillow is from My Brest Friend. I still have the one I bought after my first baby and use it for multiple purposes now.

They can be your best friend too, as they provide support and relief to your back, neck, spine and arms. The primary purpose of a nursing pillow is to keep the baby close to you and closer to your breasts.

This is typically important for a good latch and keeps you and baby comfortable throughout the nursing process. This is great for recovering from C-section as well because it protects the incision site and keeps direct pressure off of it.

Breast Pump

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (22)

This is what I was really thankful of, when I came to know about it during my first pregnancy. I had a good supply of milk and obviously it’s unrealistic to think that we can feed our baby all the time. I definitely needed to catch some sleep, do some errand and sometimes my baby used to sleep and I wasn’t able to feed.

Thank goodness we have breast pumps so that women can still feed their babies later and it’s great for women who can’t nurse but wants to give their breastmilk to their babies.

My two favorite breast pumps are Medela Freestyle Breastpump andSpectra S2 Plus Premier Electric Breast Pump.

Also if you’re not willing to own your own, there are also hospital-grade breast pumps that you can rent too.

Breast milk bags

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (23)

If you plan on pumping from the beginning, you’ll have to store it as well. It is much easier to store your breast milk in a breast milk bag. These are super important if you have over-supply issues from the beginning.

Never pump and through away your breast milk. You don’t know when you might have an unexpected dip in your supply and you need to look for it in your freezer.

You can try Parent’s Choice Breastmilk Bags as they are cheaper than other brands. They sell them at Walmart but you can get them on Amazon too!

Breastfeeding Courses

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (24)

Breastfeeding was honestly the most difficult part of postpartum period because my daughter had difficulty in latching and by that time I had no idea what a nipple shield is and how to work on a perfect latch.

I do recommend different products, a good diet and prenatal vitamins.

But after my first breastfeeding experience, I now recommend some really good courses to moms I meet and know as well. I found these courses really helpful and they helped me, they will help you too. These are two of my favorite courses:

  1. The Ultimate Breastfeeding Class– This course will help you go through the breastfeeding process smoothly and efficiently.
  2. The Ultimate Back to Work Pumping Class– This class will help you familiarize yourself with the Breast Pump and to actually pump. It has numerous ways to increase your milk supply, so don’t miss it. It’s amazing!
  3. Milk Minutes Breastfeeding Crash Course – This is a 5-day course that explains the fundamentals of how to feed your baby. It’s comprehensive and will explain breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, and pumping. This is a whole week of class which you can access simply in the comfort of your own home.
  4. Milk Minutes – All about Feeding your Baby – This is the advance version of the previous 1-week course. It’s a 14-day course that explains everything about how to feed your baby. If you want something detailed then better go for this course. However, for new moms, the above-mentioned course will be just fine.
  5. Online Prenatal Class for Couples– This class is for both husband and wife. This course is created by Hillary who is a labor and delivery nurse. In this course, she will walk you through the process of labor and more.

Natural Electrolytes

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (26)

Postpartum days can be all about leaky breast milk, night sweats, lochia and hormonal tears. Staying hydrated is an important part of restoring balance and regaining energy. All the hard work of giving birth to a new baby, natural electrolytes are a key!

There are many homemade recipes to try using coconut water, honey, and teas, but you can try the Ultima Replenisher brand because it is as easy to just scoop in water, and you are done!

Electrolytes can speed recovery and can also assist the uterus in contracting back to its pre-pregnancy size because electrolytes are required for muscle contractions. So have your electrolytes!

Prenatal Vitamins

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (27)

Just because you’re not pregnant anymore doesn’t mean you should stop taking your prenatal vitamins. You should continue taking yourprenatal vitaminsbefore, during, and after your pregnancy.

If you are breastfeeding, your doctor will most likely recommend you keep taking them once you return home. So, just make sure you have an extra bottle and along with that keep taking your well-balanced diet.

Granny Panties

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (28)

Yes, yes my friend, you need Granny panties! During your postpartum period, you will want to have soft, supportive, underwear that you can just toss after the postpartum bleeding ends.

I personally like these undies and really enjoyed having them. The high waist brief was great for postpartum and feeling secure that everything was held in. Nothing sexy about these, but they are really great and comfortable.

Baby Wrap or Sling

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (29)

Babywearing is my favorite and I loved carrying my babies around. There are literally so many benefits of babywearing for you and your baby. You can’t expect to hold your baby every time he or she needs you. There are so many times when you need both of your hands-free to do some other stuff around the house.

That’s the time when babywearing can become your best friend. I have worn both of my babies and I can promise there are many benefits other than your hands being free. I love ErgobabyandTula for babywearing. Other brands I would happily advocate are Baby K’tan Active wrapand theLillebaby Complete Airflow.

Lots Of Snacks

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (30)

Yes, honestly, lots of snacks! Now by snacks I don’t mean random junk food, but good healthy snacks that will heal your body and provide you nutrition at the same time.

I must eat food rich in vitamins, protein and healthy fruits and vegetables. Make healthy choices during this time and you will thank yourself for the rest of your life.

If you’re breastfeeding, you will need more nutrition than ever to give your body energy and to produce milk. Keep in mind that some foods boost milk supply (almonds, oats, etc). I had fruit snacks stashed in my bedside table for this reason.

And, honestly, if you don’t decide to breastfeed, you need some extra snacks on hand.

Freezer meals

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (31)

I have discussed this is so many of my articles, how important, frugal and time-friendly it is to stock up food, especially when you’re a mom.

During your postpartum period, or let’s say around at least 3 months after your delivery, you’ll not be cooking as much food as you used to. You will have your baby to look after, yourself to look after and your home to look after.

When you’re up every 2-3 hours feeding your little one, it may seem like this period you’re in will never end.

Stock up! This is a great suggestion I can give you. Other than this, ask your family or a friend if they are willing to provide you some help.

If you’re looking for suggestions on Freezer meals, check my Pinterest board Freezer Meal Ideas for a help.

Any Help Offered

29 Best Postpartum Essentials For Moms For Quick Recovery - All Moms Blog (32)

Finally, say yes to family and friends who want to bring you meals or fold your laundry. It’s ok to let them watch your kids if you have any or clean your home, while to take a little nap.

Let your family and friends send gift cards and presents. Accept all the help you can. This is the most important time of your life and you have to keep sane in order to move smoothly through this postpartum period.
