Interior design instructor creates exceptional green interior for new home in Edina.

Anne Farniok, an interior design instructor at Dakota County Technical College, made it to the final four in a Green Design Contest on the KARE 11 home improvement program,Blueprint for Green. Farniok designed a concept board with three green ideas for an environment-friendly and healthful home under construction in Edina.
Brad and Kristin, the couple that owns the new home, selected Farniok’s concept, along with concepts from three other finalists, from an original group of 25 interior designers.
“The competition was intense,” Farniok said. “The finalists were then interviewed by Jack Snow, the project’s architect, to provide a better understanding of each interior concept.” Farniok’s interview with the architect airs on KARE 11 on Saturday, February 23, during the 12 noon episode ofBlueprint for Green.
The program’s host, veteran newscaster Randy Meier, noted that the concept drawing of the completed interior on Farniok’s board helped clinch the deal. Homeowners Brad and Kristin were also impressed, remarking that they were attracted to the array of interesting materials on display, but felt that the image really distinguished Farniok’s company, MODIFI Spatial Design Solutions, from the rest of the contestants.
“I worked with Jason Nash, a former student in our program, to develop the rendering,” Farniok said. “We wanted the owners to get a feel for the interior of their finished home.”

TheInterior Design program prepares graduates to become professional interior designers. Students acquire the knowledge base and skill set needed to design interior environments that are both functional and beautiful. Versed in design theories, interior materials, building codes, and manual and computer aided drafting, students conceive and execute high-quality design solutions for residential and commercial projects.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment for interior designers is projected to grow faster than average, increasing 19 percent between 2006 and 2016. The BLS also states that the median annual wage for interior designers in the U.S. reached $48,000 in mid-2006.
According to iseek.org, the median wage is currently more than $22 per hour for interior designers in Minnesota. As of February 2008, salary.com put the median annual salary above $51,300 for top earners in the Twin Cities metro area.
