When you install SCCM client agent, by default the client cache size is set to 5120 MB. However you can configure Client Cache Settings in SCCM and change or modify the client cache size.

The Configuration Manager client cache on Windows computers stores temporary files to install applications and programs. When you deploy any application, the temporary files are copied over to ccmcache folder. The CCMcache folder is located in C:\Windows\ccmcache.

Previously, one had to use a script to increase the client cache. However in the Configuration Manager current branch, you configure the client cache from default client settings.

Configure Client Cache Settings in SCCM

The default SCCM client cache size is 5120 MB and let’s modify the client cache settings.

• Launch Configuration Manager console
• Go to Administration\Overview\Client Settings.
• You can either edit the default client settings or create a new custom setting.
• Edit the client settings and click Client Cache Settings.
• Under Device Settings, set Configure client cache size to Yes.
• Configure the Maximum cache size (MB).

If you have modified the default client settings to increase the client cache, the settings will apply to all the machines. And if you have made the changes to custom client device settings, remember to deploy the settings to the device collection.

Now once you do that, you can manually check the ccmcache size. On the client computer go to control panel and click Configuration Manager. On the Configuration Manager properties box, click Cache tab and then click Configure Settings. This should show the client cache size.

If you don’t see any changes in the cache size, restart the SMS Agent host service on the client computer.
