Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alan Peter S. Cayetano signs the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 10928 (2017), otherwise known as “An Act Extending the Validity of Philippine Passports”.
25 October 2017 PASAY CITY — The Department of Foreign Affairs issued today Department Order No. 010-2017 or the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 10928 (2017), otherwise known as “An Act Extending the Validity of Philippine Passports,” which was enacted on 02 August 2017.
Under the IRR, no changes will be made on the current passport except for the ten-year validity period, for those issued to Filipinos 18 years or older. Filipinos under 18 years will still be issued five-year valid passports.
The ten-year passport will cost PHP 950.00, which is the current price of a five-year passport.
However, in accordance with the DFA’s mandate to improve the passport processing system to make it seamless, convenient and pro-people, and to ensure that the production and security of passports are at par with technological advances and world standards, additional fees may be imposed in the future for passports that will have enhanced features.
The DFA undertook extensive consultations with Congress and other stakeholders before the IRR was issued.
It will take effect on 01 January 2018 to allow sufficient global notification. END
