The history behind NAV / Navision
Dynamics NAV, or Navision, has a long history behind it. The solution was first developed in Denmark at the beginning of 1084 by PC&C ApS under the name Pc Plus. From 1987 to 1989 the system went by the name Navigator and from 1989 to 2005 the official brand name was Navision. In 2002 Navision was acquired by Microsoft and in 2002 they changed the name to Dynamics NAV.
Microsoft rebranded Dynamics NAV in 2018 and the solution changed its name to Dynamics 365 Business Central. Dynamics 365 is a common term for a large number of different business applications, where Business Central is included as an ERP solution for small and medium-sized companies. However, it is important to point out that in practice Business Central can easily be used by large companies as well, which the solution will already be.

When Microsoft rebranded Dynamics NAV and the solution was instead named Business Central, they also changed the license model. Business Central costs DKK 50 for the Team Members license, DKK 440 for the Essentials license and DKK 630 for the Premium license.
What is the name of the latest version of Dynamics NAV?
The last version of Dynamics NAV was NAV 2018, after which the solution changed its name to Business Central. The latest version of Business Central is Business Central 21, which will be launched in October 2022 as part of the Dynamics 365 2022 release wave 2 upgrade wave.
