Is an F GPA Good?

An F GPA is insufficient to graduate. The national average GPA is a B, so if you’re planning to graduate, you have a lot of work ahead of you.

For high school students

You are failing in your studies with an F GPA. If you don’t have plenty of time left before you graduate, you may have to attend school an extra year or consider obtaining your GED.

For college students

With an F GPA, you're probably not even eligible for academic probation. It may be time to consider the workforce or re-evaluate your college goals.

How Can I Raise My GPA?

Unless you are in the early semesters of your high school or college program, it will be nearly impossible to raise an F GPA into an above-average range. Even then, you will need to prioritize your studies until your GPA becomes acceptable.

  • Turn in assignments fully completed and on time.

  • Share your situation with your instructors, and ask what you can do to make up work.

  • Participate actively in class.
