Four generations of ginger - how Lilibet inherited the Royals' iconic look (2024)

A photo of the Duke and duch*ess of Sussex's daughter Lilibet has got lots of fans of the monarchy commenting about a certain trait that seems to run throughout the Royal Family.

The snap of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's daughter, taken at a recent 'intimate backyard picnic' for her first birthday party at their Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor, showed the one-year-old sporting a thick head of red hair.

Shot during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend, it's succeeded in getting everyone saying how she's the absolute spit of her dad.

One said: "Wow. Harry’s twin."

Another squealed: "Omg, she looks like Harry, a happy birthday to her."

And the couple's other child - their two-year-old son Archie - also has curly red locks, something that was also much commented upon when a Yuletide portrait was released of the four of them all together outside their home in Santa Barbara, California last Christmas.

The notion that red hair runs in the Royal Family was also compounded a few years ago by the unearthing of an old magazine photo shoot featuring the late Prince Phillip as a young man, in which he bears an uncanny resemblance to how his grandson Harry looks now.

The image of the Duke of Edinburgh, aged 36, originally appeared on the cover of Paris Match in 1957 and was shared by Getty royal photographer Chris Jackson on his Instagram page.

And the overriding similarity between him and Harry was what struck many of his followers.

"That's Prince Philip? Or is it Harry doing a spot of time travel?" said one, while another added, "'That looks like Harry. But if that mag is that old - who else is it?"

"No wonder the Queen is so fond of Harry. He reminds her of her husband, Prince Phillip," posted a third.

The cover shot showed Philip back in the day, wearing his naval uniform and sporting a red beard, which some claimed rubbishes the previously held notion that Harry got his looks from his late mum, Diana, Princess of Wales - red hair also being a Spencer trait.

And let's not forget Fergie, the duch*ess of York, whose own fiery red hair has helped make her one of the most recognisable modern royals.

It's a look that she to has passed on to her two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
