Is UCLA psychology hard to get into? ›

Students with a grade-point average between 2.5 and 2.89 in the preparation coursework enter a competitive application pool and are admitted only if there is space available in the major.

Admission into the major will be based on a student's academic performance in the preparation for major courses. Students must have completed all of the preparatory coursework with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA to be eligible to apply.

Academic Preparation

The average GPA of admitted transfer students is above 3.5 and admitted students have completed most or all major preparatory courses. We give highest priority to applicants from California community colleges and other UC campuses.

At UCLA (overall acceptance rate of 14%), history majors have a whopping 52% acceptance rate, art history has a 40% acceptance rate, political science is 40%, sociology is 40%, and anthropology is 44%.

The subject requirement, sometimes called A to G requirements, is a sequence of high school academic courses required for admission to the University of California. Each course must be completed with a grade of C or better.

California applicants must earn at least a 3.0 GPA and nonresidents must earn a minimum 3.4 GPA in all A-G or college-preparatory courses to meet this requirement.

While UCLA Admissions shows no GPA requirement for incoming freshman applicants, it does list a requirement for transfer applicants; according to UCLA Admissions, applicants must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher earned in transferable courses.
