The full form of NET is National Eligibility Test. For postgraduates who want to get a PhD or would like to pursue their career as a teacher in India, NET is an important nationwide entry examination (UGC NET or NTA-UGC-NET). It is an exam conducted to determine the credential for the rank of JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) and Assistant Professor of Indian universities and colleges.
The minimum requirement for technical and research teaching is NET. The above test is carried out in several subjects, that is, Computer science & engineering, social science, computer application, forensic science, political science, history, sociology, home science, anthropology, law, education, and many more. Subjects of literature such as English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Marathi, French, Spanish, Japanese, and so on.
Few Points about NET
NET is carried out by the UGC (University Grants Commission). UGC undertakes this exam across India.
The test was performed for the first time in 1989 and has been performed twice a year since then.
UGC CSIR NET conducts the study of science subjects. It is the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.
The CBSE carried out the UGC NET examination until July 2018, but the NTA (National Testing Agency) is undertaking the UGC National Eligibility Test from December 2018 onwards.
The primary objective of this test is to classify students for lectureships at the university level as well as for the Junior Research Fellowship.
A total of 150 questions are given to the candidates combining paper 1 and paper 2. UGC NET exam does not have a negative marking scheme. The candidates are awarded for correct answers but no mark deductions are made for incorrect answers. The exam is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode.
The main difference between the CSIR NET and UGC NET is that the CSIR NET exam is conducted for the selection of candidates in the fields of Science, Engineering, and Technology while the UGC NET exam is conducted for the selection of candidates in the fields of Arts, Commerce, and Humanities.
The UGC NET exam comprises two papers - Paper I (Teaching & Research Aptitude), Paper II (Subject opted by the candidate). All questions asked in the examination are objective-type MCQs. There is no negative marking in the examination.
Cut off marks or cut off meaning can be understood as the minimum percentage of marks that the candidates should secure to get admission to their desired college, school, university, or any other institution.
Both exams are conducted nationally, with moderate to tough difficulty levels. However, CSIR NET is generally considered more challenging than UGC NET. Can an average student crack CSIR NET? With proper effort and focused preparation, even an average student can qualify for CSIR NET 2023 without coaching.
UGC NET & JRF Exam are the same exam conducted by NTA. The only difference is that you need more marks to clear the JRF Cut Off Marks as compared to NET. UGC NET June 2024 will be out on the official website soon, candidate wants to know more about UGC NET.
The UGC NET exam consists of two papers, Paper 1 and Paper 2. Both papers consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Candidates have to complete both papers within the duration of three hours.
