This Oreo Peppermint Bark Recipe is so festive looking and delicious too. It combines Oreo cookies with both white and milk chocolate and Starlight Mints or crushed candy cane!
As long as I can remember, candy barks have been a big part of the holiday season. I remember Almond Bark being a yearly classic when I was a kid, but I was never a big fan of it.
Now I love Almond Bark, but I love all the other variations of bark recipes even more. You can really make an almost endless amount of flavor combinations in this sweet treat.
We have an extra delicious and also pretty version today with this Oreo Peppermint Bark recipe. It’s so good!
Only a few ingredients are needed to make the recipe: OREOs, Starlight Mints (or other peppermint candy like a crushed candy cane), and then either chocolate and white chocolate chips OR chocolate and white chocolate candy coating.
For the chocolate you can choose to use either milk chocolate, semi sweet or dark chocolate.
This Christmas OREO bark is a great addition to cookie trays. You can also package it up in cellophane bags and tie with Christmas-themed ribbon to give as gifts or party favors.
This peppermint OREO bark is also perfect for Valentine’s Day with the pretty red and white topping. BUT, it’s so yummy you may end up making it all year round.

If you don’t have a food processor, you can crush the mints by putting them in a ziptop bag and smashing them with a rolling pin or heavy frying pan. Just be careful!

What is peppermint bark made of? It's just three simple ingredients: white chocolate, peppermint oil, and peppermint candies! If you have extra candy canes lying around, crush 'em up and use those instead.
So when we discovered that Costco sells their own peppermint bark at a fraction of the price, we ran to our nearest warehouse. Kirkland-brand peppermint bark comes in 21-ounce containers and costs mere 9.99. If you do the math, Costco's version costs 75% less per ounce than Williams Sonoma's.
Don't let chocolate come in contact with water or steam, which cause it to seize. (Peppermint extract is made with alcohol so even though it's liquid, it won't seize). Let bark sit at room temperature for few minutes before slicing/breaking to prevent layers from separating.
Peppermint bark is a chocolate confection. Generally it consists of peppermint candy pieces, such as candy canes, in white chocolate on top of dark chocolate, but peppermint bark can refer to any chocolate with peppermint candy pieces in it. It is especially popular around the Christmas season.
After 20 rounds of recipe testing, in 1998, Williams Sonoma founder Chuck Williams and the Williams Sonoma Test Kitchen team developed the signature recipe for The Original Peppermint Bark that sparked a food trend that is celebrated by chocolate enthusiasts around the world during the holiday season.
INGREDIENTS: sugar, palm kernel oil, cocoa processed with alkali, milk, nonfat milk, corn syrup, contains 2% or less of the following: lactose, whey, palm oil, soy lecithin, natural flavors, artificial color (fd&c red #40).
You will want to make sure that the layers are hardened before adding the next layer on top. This will ensure that your bark won't separate. Why is my peppermint bark soft? If you leave your bark out at room temperature the peppermint bark will tend to be soft.
The name "bark" or "candy bark" doesn't exactly explain itself, does it? Barks like this peppermint bark are called that because of the way the chocolate candy breaks into craggy pieces that resemble the layers and borders of tree bark. Also, many barks are made with dark chocolates, so the color is similar, too.
Tins or treat bags of homemade peppermint bark make such a lovely holiday gift. Pair with Christmas cookies in a jar or homemade vanilla sugar for a sweet homemade treat anyone would love to receive!
Remove the Peppermint Bark from the pan by lifting the edges of the aluminum foil. Peel back the foil and break, or cut, the bark into small irregular pieces. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Like other forms of sheet candy, such as brittle, peppermint bark is generally made by pouring tempered chocolate over the top of crushed hard peppermint. Once the chocolate has cooled, it's then cut up or broken into smaller pieces.
Peppermint extract is a herbal extract of peppermint (Mentha × piperita) made from the essential oil of peppermint leaves. Peppermint is a hybrid of water mint and spearmint. The oil has been used for various purposes over centuries.
