Apply for or renew a U.S. Passport

Overview Special notice for parents Parent(s) Permission to Travel Wizard

Section 215 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1185) requires all U.S citizens to use their U.S. passports when entering or leaving the United States. Even if you are a dual Argentine/U.S citizen you may not enter/leave the U.S. on an Argentine/foreign passport. When returning to Argentina, all dual nationals should enter Argentina on their Argentine passport.

Passport services require an appointment.Please make sure you schedule your appointment for the correct type of service. Failure to do so will result in appointment cancellation and you will be asked to reschedule under the applicable category.

Passport services are not available on weekends or on Argentina or U.S. holidays.

Special Notice for Parents

Special notice for parents of children born in Argentina with a claim to U.S. citizenship and other U.S. citizens who may be dual nationals:

Children born in Argentina to U.S. citizen parents, except those in diplomatic or official status, acquire Argentine citizenship at birth as well as a possible claim to U.S. citizenship. They are dual nationals, and are required by Argentine Immigration authorities to use Argentine passports to leave Argentina.

In addition, all U.S. citizens are required by law to present a valid U.S. passport to enter and leave the United States (Section 215b of the Immigration and Nationality Act).

Special Notice for parents of children born in the United States but are residents in Argentina

For children born in the United States but are Argentine residents or U.S. children who stay in Argentina for over one year, Argentine Authorities will require the U.S. birth certificate to be apostilled and translated into Spanish by a certified translator.

Parent(s) permission to travel out of Argentina with the other parent

A parent or guardian traveling alone with a child who resides in Argentina must present to Argentine authorities a legalized permission letter in Spanish (Autorización de Viaje) from the non-accompanying parent upon departure from Argentina. Therefore, either parent may prepare an authorizing letter for the other parent to travel abroad with the child in case of emergency. A local notary public (called anescribanoin Argentina) may prepare theautorización de viajeletter. If this notarized authorization is prepared in the United States, Argentine authorities will require an apostille from the United States in addition to the notarized authorization. Applicants Age 16 or Older (DS-11)

You should complete this form if you’re applying for the first time, you’re applying for your child who is under age 16, or you don’t meet our requirements to renew your passport.

Applicants Age 15 or Under (DS-11)

You should complete this form if you meet our requirements to renew your passport. Keep in mind that children under age 16 cannot renew their passports and must apply using Form DS-11.

Apply for a Passport (15 or Under)

Applicants Age 15 or Under Without Both Parents Present

The DS-3053 is the Statement of Consent for Issuing a Passport to a Child and the DS-5525 is the Statement of Special Family Circ*mstances.

Adult Passport Renewal (DS-82)

Renew an existing passport issued to you when you were aged 16 or older.

Adult Passport Renewal Information

Report and Replace Lost/Stolen Passport (DS-64 & DS-11)

You should complete this form if you lost your passport or it has been stolen. To replace a lost or stolen passport, you must apply in person and submit Form DS-11 in addition to Form DS-64.

Update Current Passport or Replace Emergency Passport

You may be eligible to use this form if you need to change or correct your passport, or you need to replace a passport that was limited to less than 10 years validity (which is the normal validity period for an adult’s passport.
