People with ginger hair are 'better in bed', study finds (2024)

Can’t argue with science now can we?

November 5 is not just Bonfire Night, it is also National Redhead Day.

Now whether this is a deliberate move to put the day we celebrate ginger hair on the same day that large fires are lit across the country, only the creators of National Redhead Day will know.

But what better excuse to remind you of some of the scientific proof that gingers are just better, and are actually pretty fire.

Yes, according to science, people with ginger hair are better in bed.

This is because of a specific gene connected to redheads – the MC1R gene.

This gene makes the individual more sensitive to touch than people with other hair colours. It’s the same gene that makes redheads more susceptible to feel hot and cold temperatures and also means us gingers have a higher pain threshold.

But in this instance, it means that people with ginger hair find it easier to org*sm during sex.

Along with this, there is evidence to suggest that ginger people have special pheromones which make them sexually attractive.

In his book The Redheaded Encyclopedia, Stephen Douglas explains that redheads have a sweet and musky scent on their skin, a fragrance that can make them even more appealing to others.

The confidence-boosting science doesn’t end there either. Research from a study at the University of Hamburg found that women with red hair have more sex than their blonde or brunette counterparts.

Sex Researcher Professor Dr Werner Habermehl said: “The sex lives of women with red hair were clearly more active than those with other hair colour, with more partners and having sex more often than the average. The research shows that the fiery redhead certainly lives up to her reputation.”

Ginger women also have the highest org*sm rate of all hair types, at 41%.

And do you want a final piece ginger benefit? We stay looking younger for longer.

Researchers at Erasmus University of Rotterdam found that people with that brilliant MC1R gene looked on average two years younger than their actual age.

So I hate to break it to all of you with blonde hair, black hair, brown hair and every colour in between, but it turns out that the rarest hair colour on the planet is actually the best.

And that’s science.

Happy National Redhead Day one and all.
