Perfect Score Just One of 16 Worldwide (2024)

Vikram Sarkar ’26 earned a perfect score of five on the May 2023 AP Calculus BC exam — and was one of only 16 students (amounting to just 0.01% of 2023 AP Calculus BC Exam takers) from around the world to earn every point possible on this challenging, college-level examination.

“For him to be one of only 16 in the world is truly remarkable,” said Mathematics Department Chair Richard Dobbins. “He is not just ‘one to watch.’ In my view, he is what I might call a ‘generational’ talent.”

As a ninth grader, Sarkar also earned perfect scores at both the state and New England competitions, helping to lead the math team to its first-place victories. In addition, he was the top freshman in the Fairfield County Math League.

Sarkar was recognized with Brunswick’s Kenneth Merritt Award for math at last May’s Closing Exercises.

“Vikram is an exceptional math student, truly loving the material at every stage and relishing every opportunity to think about advanced ideas,” said Brunswick Upper School math teacher and coach Michael Allwood.
