How does the grading system work in the Philippines? ›

In the Philippines, the grading system can be a 5-Point Scale where 1.00 is the highest grade and 3.00 is the lowest passing grade. Some universities use a 4-point Scale like the U.S. system, where 4.00 is the highest and 2.00 is the lowest passing grade.

In the Philippines, some universities follow a 4-Point Scale, which resembles or is equivalent to the U.S. grading system. This system uses a grade between 0.00 to 4.00 wherein 4.00 is the highest and 0.00 being a failing mark.

In secondary education, schools use a grading system from 0% to 100%. A result of 75% is a pass (passing grade).

The academic performance of student is evaluated and graded at the end of each term in accordance with the prescribed grading system. The grading system is uniform using number grades in multiples of 0.25 from 1.0 to 5.0 where 1.0 is the highest and 3.0 as the lowest passing grade.

In this system, students' grades are accomplished by their weighted raw scores in collective assessments. However, the passing grade for each subject is 60. These 60 marks are mentioned on the report card by converting to 75. So the recommended minimum score for quarterly grades and final grades is 60.

In the Filipino system: a minimum average of 85 out of 100 or 2.25 out of 5 (1 high). Or the equivalent in the U.S. system: a 'B' average or a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 GPA grading scale.

Both are used to evaluate a student's academic performance, but GPA is calculated by assigning numerical values to letter grades and then averaging them. The grading of GPA starts with 0 and ends with 4. 4 is considered the highest.

Students instead received an academic excellence award based on their average grade: with highest honors (98 to 100), with high honors (95-97) and with honors (90-94).

Is 1.25 a good grade Philippines? ›

The following numerical grades shall be used in graduate courses; 1.0 (Excellent), 1.25, 1.5 (Very Good), 1.75, 2.0 (Good), 2.25, 2.5 (Satisfactory), 2.75, 3.0 (Pass), 4.0 (Conditional Failure), INC (Incomplete), and 5.0 (Fail). A grade of “3.0” or better is a passing grade.
