CLEVELAND, Ohio - Rocky River has the highest performing high school in Ohio in terms of test scores, according to the 2022 Ohio school report cards.

Fifty-four high schools received a score of 100 or higher, with the highest being 108.404 for Rocky River High School.

Among those scoring above 100 were a dozen others from Cuyahoga and the six surrounding counties in Greater Cleveland: Solon (106.698), Chagrin Falls (104.672), Kenston (104.252), Brecksville-Broadview Heights (103.682), Cuyahoga Heights (103.626), Akron Early College (103.402), West Geauga (103.369), Bay (102.795), Aurora (102.5), Avon (101.87), Hudson (101.839) and Highland (101.747).

Hamilton County has the most schools in this top percentile, with seven schools having a performance index of 100 or higher, accounting for 15.9% of its 44 high schools. Cuyahoga had six.

While the Ohio school report card’s new star ratings across multiple categories offer a more balanced assessment of schools and districts, a numerical measure of a school’s success, for better or worse, is still how well students perform in their state tests.

The performance index measures the test results of every student, not just those who score proficient or higher. Schools receive points for every student who takes a test, with more points awarded the higher the performance level on state tests.

About 21.4%, or 176 schools in the state, received a performance index score of less than 65. Of them, 35 are located in Cuyahoga County and about half of the total schools in the county.

Three schools, Black River Local Virtual School, North College Hill TrojanWay Learning Center, and Marysville Virtual School, did not receive a calculated score.

The report cards were released on Sept. 13 by the Ohio Department of Education and used a new star-based rating system that replaced the former A through F grades, along with the test score. Both the performance index and the star ratings are shown below. Early literacy is not included as it is mainly inapplicable to high schools. If a school does not have a star rating in acategory, it receives an “NR” instead.
