The Chief of Police is denoted by the two gold stars on the uniform insignia. The Chief of Police is the highest-ranking officer in the agency and is considered the department head.

The Assistant Chief of Police is denoted by the single gold star on theuniform insignia. The Tom Bean Police Department has an Assistant Chief which is an administrative reserve officer position that reports directly to and serves at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

Senior Sergeant rank consists of three-stripes up with a centered star, and single stripe rocker. Staff Sergeants become eligible for promotion to Senior Sergeant upon completion of forty eight months of service as a Staff Sergeant, or special appointment by the Chief of Police. Senior Sergeant is the most senior ranking Sergeant in the department.

Staff Sergeant rank consists of three stripes up with a single stripe rocker. Sergeants become eligible for promotion to Staff Sergeant upon completion of forty-eight months of service as a Sergeant, or special appointment by the Chief of Police. Staff Sergeant is an intermediate ranking Sergeant within the department.

A first-line supervisor holds the rank of Sergeant. The three-stripe, gold chevron uniform insignia denotes the Sergeant’s rank.

Senior Corporal rank consists of two-stripes up with a centered star and single-stripe rocker. Corporals become eligible for promotion to Senior Corporal upon completion of forty-eight months of service as a Corporal, or special appointment by the Chief of Police. Senior Corporal is the most senior ranking Corporal in the department.

Reserve Officers are assigned to a Corporal, which is the coordinator position. The Corporal rank is a silver chevron with two stripes up. In addition to their coordinator responsibilities, Corporals also perform functionssuch as patrol. Corporals only act in a supervisory capacity over other reserve officers in the Sergeant’s absence.

Senior Police Officer rank is a chevron consisting of one-stripe up with a centered silver star and rocker. Senior Police Officer is the most senior, non-supervisory rank in the department.

Police Officer II rank is a chevron consisting of one-stripe up with a single stripe rocker. A Police Officer II becomes eligible for promotion to Police Officer III upon obtaining an Intermediate Peace Officer License with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, and completion of forty-eight months of service with the department, or special appointment by the Chief of Police.

Police Officer I rank is a chevron consisting of one-stripe up. A Police Officer I becomes eligible for promotion to Police Officer II upon completion of thirty-six months of service with the department, or special appointment by the Chief of Police. All Police Officer I ranked officers are assigned to the Patrol Unit.

Police Officer has no rank insignia

The most junior members of the department, they are eligible for promotion to Police Officer I upon completion of twenty-four months of service with the department, or special appointment by the Chief of Police. All Police Officers are assigned to the Patrol Unit.
