According to the Toronto Police Service (TPS), the alleged thefts took place in October 2025 at 52 Division, a downtown station. Instead of properly logging the items upon delivery, the officer is accused of taking them for personal gain. An investigation led to the recovery of multiple items, some of which had been reported stolen to the police. Among the recovered property were bank cards, passports, and government IDs—items that, if misused, could lead to identity theft or financial fraud.
And this is the part most people miss: the officer in question, Const. Derek McCormick, has been with the force for 28 years. A nearly three-decade-long career now tarnished by allegations of betrayal. McCormick has been arrested and faces four counts of theft under $5,000, breach of trust, and obstruction of justice. He has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the case.
