A Pension Payment Order (PPO), a 12-digit number given to each pensioner covered by the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), is allotted when an Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) subscriber retires. Pensioners can check the status of their pension on the EPFO’s pensioner’s portal. The 12-digit PPO number is unique for each pensioner/family pensioner and it works as a reference number for any communication. Pensioners can also lodge grievances using the PPO number. If you are not aware of your PPO number, follow the below steps.
(Step 1) Log on to www.epfindia.gov.in(Step 2) Under Online service, click on the Pensioner's portal(Step 3) You will be redirected to the 'Welcome to Pensioners Portal. 'Click 'Know your PPO number' which is mentioned on the right side of the page(Step 4) Enter either your bank account number or PF number.Once the necessary data has been entered, you will be given your PPO number, Member ID, and pension type.

Verification of PPO
Please check the pensionary awards included in your PPO as soon as you receive it to ensure they are accurate and in accordance with current regulations. According to the Pensioners Portal, “In case of any correction(s) required in the PPO, please contact your Head of Office/Pension Disbursing Agency for necessary action in this regard.”

What is the system of allotment of 12-digit PPO numbers?
“The following system is adopted for the allotment of 12 digits PPO numbers. In each PPO, the first five digits indicate the code number of PPO Issuing Authority, next two digits indicate the year of issue, and after this the four digits indicate the sequential number of the PPO while the last digit is a check digit for the purpose of computer,” says the Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO).
Go to the EPFO website. Under “Online Services", click on “For Employees" and then “Pensioners' Portal." Navigate to the Pensioners' Portal and locate the option titled “Know your PPO number". Retrieve your PPO number by entering your details, which include your PF account number and bank account number.
