What are Hilton Points Worth? - NerdWallet (2024)

Hilton is known for offering huge-looking bonuses on its branded credit cards, yet as we often warn: It doesn’t matter how many points you have if they’re not worth much.

Consider how much each point is worth, and a six-figure point bonus on one hotel credit card is not necessarily as eye-popping as it may seem next to a five-figure bonus on another card with more valuable points. And that’s generally the case with Hilton, as the Hilton points value just isn’t a whole lot.

Based on our data-driven analysis, Hilton Honors points have a value of 0.5 cent each. Does this mean you will always get that much from your Hilton points? Not necessarily. But you can use it as a baseline estimate for your own redemptions.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll always get that much from your Hilton points. Snag a killer redemption, and your Hilton points could be worth far more. Transfer your points to a Hilton transfer partner, and your points very well could turn out to be worth a lot less. In general, use this Hilton points valuation to give you a rough estimate of whether your redemption is bad or good, but don’t fret if you’re hoping to book a room that comes out to be .1 cent less than our target. Instead, use our calculations as a baseline estimate for your own redemptions.

What does the value of Hilton points mean?

To determine the cash value of a Hilton point, we compared dozens of real-world redemptions from 2021, comparing their cost when paying with cash or points. We considered a range of Hilton properties spread around the world and across all tiers of luxury. From there, we calculated that each point is worth 0.5 cent each.

That means if you’re getting more than 0.5 cent per point in value, you’re doing well. If you’re getting less and you still want to book that hotel, you might consider paying for that room in cash (and saving your points for another redemption option).

This valuation also can give you the sense of the relative dollar value of a Hilton promotion or credit card offer. Though keep in mind that it is only an estimate, not a hard cash value.

The value of Hilton points over time

Hilton points have hovered around 0.5 cent apiece since 2019. Though, as you'll see, they remain less valuable that a number of other major programs' points.

How do Hilton points compare to other hotel programs?

Hilton Honors points are worth less than the average hotel point. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying to earn Hilton points. It simply means that you’ll need way more Hilton points to book a Hilton room than you might need Hyatt points to book a comparable Hyatt room.

Hilton Honors points are just another currency, and currencies offer different relative values. What’s important to keep in mind is that 10,000 Hilton points is worth far less than, say, 10,000 Hyatt points.

So at Hilton, the only properties you’ll find for 10,000 points are a few, ultra-budget, no-frills hotels.
