DepEd: About 38K schools ready for face-to-face classes (2024)

About 38,000 schools are all set for in-person classes for the opening of the School Year 2022-2023 in August, a top official of the Department of Education (DepEd) said Saturday.

In an interview on Dobol B TV, Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said that based on the DepEd’s assessment of schools’ readiness to implement health protocols for face-to-face classes “almost 38,000 of our schools, public and private… are ready.”

Malaluan said that of the 38,000 schools, majority or 36,000 are public schools which is about 80% of the total 47,612 public schools in the country.

Among the readiness requirements for in-person classes are well-ventilated classrooms as well as hand-washing facilities, the DepEd official said.

Malaluan added that the DepEd’s plan to implemented 100% face-to-face classes come August will push through even if some areas shift to Alert Level 2 because face-to-face classes are allowed for both Alert Levels 1 and 2.

Moreover, the Education Department is drafting a Learning Recovery and Continuity Towards the New Normal in School Year 2022-2023, which will be turned over to the next administration, he added. —LBG, GMA News
