The first movie is a stone-cold classic, but there's a surprising amount of very good Predator movies that are also very much worth watching. It was well shot, the action scenes were unique and entertaining, and it brought back that feeling of suspense that I think a lot of the Predator sequel movies were missing. It's not a perfect movie, but it is a perfect popcorn movie giving you everything you could want out of a Predator movie.

Prey 2 has officially been confirmed with original star Amber Midthunder in talks to return as Naru. Prey helped to revitalize the franchise, and Prey 2 is perhaps the most in-demand Predator sequel in decades.

Prey was a terrific idea for a film, with the simple act of relocating the story reinvigorating the Predator franchise. This success could easily be translated to other horror/sci-fi movies in search of a new direction that also honors the elements that made them successful in the first place.

Why did Prey flop? And why did many reviewers not know what to make of this game? Put simply: Prey was a marketing failure from beginning to end, ensuring that the people who would most enjoy it stayed away from actually trying it.

The success of the original Prey led to the announcement of a sequel Prey 2 in August 2006, with continued development by 3D Realms. However, the project faced numerous issues, including the transfer of the intellectual property (IP) rights to Bethesda Softworks (under ZeniMax Media) by 2011.

While it arguably deserved a theatrical release, it likely wouldn't have been a box office hit. Since Prey was a holdover before Disney bought Fox in 2019, the potential for post-theatrical streaming boosts was contractually limited.
