I am starting to setup customers now with the v18 3cx hosted version. If phones are supported now, like the Grandstream GXP2170, what will happen when those phones are eventually marked as end of life for the hosted by 3cx version. Will they stop working? Or just stop getting updates? Using SBC on the lan to provision phones Thanks.

So first of all, there isn't a separate list of phones for hosted vs non hosted. For phones that are supported now but fall out of support later, then yes, they will no longer be supported. That doesn't necessarily mean they will stop working, although that someone depends on what your definition of working is. When they are out of support, that may mean any new features won't work, or even some existing features may break. As far as getting updates, 3CX doesn't update phones. The manufacturer provides the updates, both the firmware and the templates. So yes, if the manufacturer EOLs the phone, then it will stop getting updates.

Thanks for the info....just worried I will setup customers on hosted and in 1-2 years phones will no longer work when they are EOL in the hosted by 3cx environment.

Hello,

As per @cobaltit stated correctly the Phones that are supported with 3CX are supported in Hosted, Self Hosted or on Premises Environments.
This is the list of supported Phones that is updated frequently:
https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/

Regarding Hosted with 3CX the recommended and supported solution is to always use your phones behind an SBC for Easy of Setup, Security and Compatibility reasons

Thanks for the information, as stated, we are using the phones behind an SBC. My question more so was, if the phones reach EOL, will they stop working for the customer, or just stop being supported until they are able to be upgraded.

Hello,

A device that is supported and reaches to a point that is end of life means that the manufacturer is going to stop creating/building new firmware for this device.

That doesn't mean that the phones are going to stop working.
The problem is that since the software is evolving we want be able to support those devices because we cannot guarantee that a devices that is EOL from the manufacturer is going to continue work properly with the 3CX Software.

I hope this helps!
