Marketing Job Titles that Candidates Search for the Most (without Retail)

The 25 Best Marketing Job Titles [Ranked by Search Volume] (1)

Disclaimer: The actual # of candidates searching marketing job titles is much larger than what I list in this article. For example, I didn’t count long-tail searches such as “marketing manager job in dallas” or “best marketing director jobs”. My data also doesn’t include marketing title searches on job boards (Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Facebook, etc.) or the searches on company career sites.

Marketing Titles that Candidates Search for the Most (with Retail)

The 25 Best Marketing Job Titles [Ranked by Search Volume] (2)

Sales and marketing job titles are closely related. If you care just about sales, check out The 16 Best Sales Job Titles [Ranked by Search Volume] to see the same type of data on sales titles.

Creative Marketing Job Titles

You might be tempted to use creative marketing job titles for your team. Here are some creative marketing titles we’ve seen on the Web:

  • Conversion Optimization Wrangler (MathWorks used this for a Marketing Analyst job)
  • Director of Storytelling (Blue Cross Blue Shield used this for a copywriter/marketing director-type position).
  • Rockstar Copywriter (Workhoppers used this for a copywriter/social media manager)
  • Wizard of Light Bulb Moments (Marketing Director)
  • Digital Dynamo (Digital Marketing Executive)
  • Direct Mail Demi-God (Direct Mail Account Manager
  • Marketing Rockstar ( too broad a term that could be any marketing job)
  • Associate to the Executive Manager of Marketeering (Marketing Assistant)

Many employees would love to have such creative marketing position titles.

But just know that you’ll get very few candidates searching job postings for such creative marketing titles.

My advice: Save your creative marketing titles for business cards (not job postings).

4 Types of Marketers

[Update, Feb. 25, 2020] — I wanted to add one more interesting take on marketing jobs. It’s from Viviana fa*ga, former marketing leader at Zenefits, Microsoft, Yammer and Salesforce. She told Christopher Lochhead on Follow Your Different that she sees 4 different types of marketers:

  1. Corporate Marketing (overall messaging, positioning)
  2. Product Marketing (marketing the product to customers)
  3. Brand and Creative (the brand story and creative
  4. Performance Marketing (demand generation)

I might riff on Viviana’s thoughts in this or another post but I wanted to capture it here because grouping things (like marketing types) into 3 or 4 categories is often useful for mastery of the subject.

You probably noticed some social media titles sprinkled in this list of top marketing position titles. Although marketing and social media often are under the same department, we also did a listing of The Top 20 Social Media Job Titles [by Popularity]. You might find these useful too!
